Faculty Position: Resilient Civil Infrastructure

The University of Maryland's Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering seeks applicants for a tenure-track position in Civil and Environmental Engineering in the area of Resilient Civil Infrastructure. This area is interpreted broadly to include among many other topics: infrastructure system performance under multi-hazard loading (hurricanes, earthquakes, flooding, fire and conflagration); planning for sea level rise, coastal risk, and non-stationary climate; risk analysis for natural hazards, especially in the face of climate change; engineering policy, economic analysis, and infrastructure finance; intelligent and rapidly deployable sensor networks; dynamic decision support for response to hazard events; and engineered and nature-based mitigation of natural hazards. The successful candidate could have an academic background rooted in any area of civil engineering, especially structural, geotechnical, or transportation engineering. We are seeking the best candidate irrespective of specialization. The appointment is preferably at the assistant professor level, but appointment at other ranks will be considered.

Candidates should demonstrate the ability to teach effectively at the undergraduate and graduate levels, guide an active scholarly research program, collaborate across discipline boundaries, and obtain funding from competitive external funding agencies.

Faculty Position: Environmental Engineering

The University of Maryland, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering seeks applicants for a tenure-track position in Civil and Environmental Engineering, preferably at the assistant professor level, but appointment at other ranks will be considered.  Candidates should demonstrate the ability to: guide an active scholarly research program, obtain funding from competitive external funding agencies, and teach effectively at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Although the research specialization area of environmental engineering is open, a strong fundamental science/engineering background is desired and the following topics are of specific interest:  chemical and biosensors development for pathogen and contaminant detection, water-energy nexus, urban water challenges, and resource reutilization.
